CPAP Devices

Will my CPAP device still work during load shedding?

If your CPAP device has battery back-up, you can rest assured knowing that your device will keep running during load shedding.

Are there any side effects when using a CPAP machine?

Although a CPAP mask can take some getting used to, and some minor discomfort may be experienced at first, serious side effects to using a CPAP device are not common.

Side effects reported by patients are usually related to the mask or pressure. Nasal congestion, rhinitis or a runny nose are also minor side effects reported by patients.

To minimise side effects, make sure that your mask is properly fitted, and not too small or too large. A heated humidifier can also assist with any nasal symptoms.

Can CPAP machines prevent snoring?

While snoring can be caused by Sleep Apnea, other causes may need to be taken into consideration as well.

Snoring can be caused by various factors. Some of these include obstructions in the nasal passageway, the tongue blocking the airway, weakness in the throat, or drugs and alcohol causing the muscles in the throat to relax more than usual.

Snoring occurs when the throat passage is blocked. A CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) device ensures that the throat remains open while sleeping, and can potentially reduce or eliminate any snoring.

Fitting

My mask is leaking. What should I do?
